The Village Buzz just launched a brand-new 16-week health series called "Decades of Health — Carlsbad Edition."

Each week, we’ll dive into the surprising truths of thriving through your 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s — and share local Carlsbad tips to help you stay strong, sharp, and energized at every age.

From metabolism slowdowns and hormonal curveballs to heart health, brainpower, balance, and purpose — this series is your insider’s guide to feeling your best in every decade of life. 🏄‍♀️💪🌊

Month 2 — Thriving in Your 40s

    • Week 5: Recovery Slows Down
    • Week 6: Hormones Start Running the Show

    • Week 7: Stress Becomes Physical

    • Week 8: Preventive Health Isn’t Optional Anymore

🩺 What They Don’t Tell You When You Hit 40 ❤️‍🩹

Part 2: Hormones Start Running the Show

Your 40s are often the beginning of a hormonal rollercoaster — and no one hands you a guidebook.

For women, perimenopause may sneak in with hot flashes, mood swings, or stubborn weight gain.

For men, testosterone levels start dipping, sometimes leaving energy and motivation lagging.

These changes don’t happen overnight, but the shifts can feel frustrating when you’re doing “everything right” and still feel off.

That’s because hormones are your body’s silent conductors, influencing sleep, metabolism, and even mood.

Here’s where lifestyle comes in: resistance training, stress management, and balanced nutrition are powerful tools.

Carlsbad Tip: Carlsbad’s local gyms, meditation studios, and wellness-focused eateries give you options that support hormonal balance. And yes, talking with your doctor about these changes — instead of pushing through — is key.

Bottom line: Hormones may be running the show, but you’re still the director. The right support makes all the difference.
